Sabre is currently recruiting for SAS Software Architect 2 to work in Washington, DC. This position is contingent upon contract award and/or customer approval.


Project Overview:  We are seeking a senior SAS architect, programmer and developer who will provide critical support for mission-based systems and current modernization project. This often requires that the SAS architect ensures compatibility between equipment and software, analyzes operational/systems requirements, supports design reviews, and presents technical briefings. Evaluates, assesses, documents, and tests data security and continuity of operations for systems and programs. Serves as solutions provider to senior management and professional staff concerning areas of technological development and advancement. Formulates recommendations on hardware/software interfacing, large scale systems, expert systems, and technical problems. Performs business and system object modeling simulation and analysis. Advises and recommends system characteristics that affect software systems such as storage capacity, processing speed, and I/O requirements. Coordinates activities of developers and engineers. Provides enterprise systems architecture expertise in developing systems supporting common purposes, processes, architectures, and standards. Develops strategy for enterprise-wide methodology or tool implementation, or planning and implementing enterprise technology changes in all layers of the architecture including front end, middle tier and backend technologies and tools.

Minimum Technical Qualifications:


  • Eight years’ experience 
  • Performing data manipulation, including text, SAS datasets, and relational database tables 
  • Writing SAS program source code including:  
  • Base SAS (e.g., data step processing, functions and call routines, formats/informats). 
  • SAS Macros. 
  • SAS Procedures (e.g., Print, Freq, Univariate, Means, Format, Append, Datasets, Template, Transpose). 
  • Creating SAS reports (Proc Report, Proc Tabulate, ODS System). 
  • SAS Access to different products (e.g., Sybase, Oracle, PC Files), as required. 
  • SAS SQL, as required. 
  • AppDev Studio, Integration Technologies, and Enterprise Guide, as required. 
  • Management Console, including Metadata and Workspace Servers, as required. 
  • Utilizing at least one relational database (e.g., Oracle, Hadoop, MongoDB, etc.) 
  • Gathering and analyzing requirements; designing and developing applications in SAS. 
  • System testing, including planning, executing, developing test data, and documenting the testing. 
  • SAS module or unit testing, including executing and documenting the testing. 
  • Six years’ experience 
  • Developing in one or more development methodologies 
  • Analysis of applications or multi-module systems 
  • Four years’ experience 
  • Data modeling, data warehousing, distributed processing, utilization of tools for data modeling and logical and physical database design, software integration and/or security issues and techniques as required. 
  • Three years experience 
  • Producing program specifications for SAS modules, programs and applications 
  • Translating design specifications into computer program instructions, preparing test plans, and conducting tests. 
  • Serving as a technical leader of software engineering or computer professionals, as required. 


Desirable Qualifications (but not required) 

  • The use of version control software or software migration routines 
  • Project experience with the Agile framework, DevOps or other iterative development methodologies 
  • Experience in multiple test and production environments 
  • Experience with the BLS standard IT development products and environments 
  • Knowledge of BLS surveys and systems 
  • Specific experience developing statistical systems 


Contract Requirements 

  • If a foreign national, Visa must be up-to-date and demonstrated work experience here in the US for three (3) or more years 
  • Developing systems architectures, where required. 
  • Must be eligible to obtain Special Sworn Status – Title 13 & 26 clearance through US Census Bureau (if required to support development)
